The stories of Ukrainians the world should know about. This is why we’ve launched Svoi.Global

That Saturday Yulia was just zapping through different Youtube videos from the East of Ukraine. In one of them, she happened to see the footage of her previous life fading away. It was the second time the war took away her home. Later, she described her experience and feelings for Svoi.
Today, as we are launching Svoi.Global, the very same Yulia has posted another unexpected message in our working chat. This time, it was good news: after a horrible month of silence, Natalia, our content manager, has finally got in touch. She has managed to evacuate to Western Ukraine from Rubizhne, a small town in Luhansk region, which has been under merciless shelling since the first days of the war.
“Do I still have a job?” Natalia asked shyly. Of course she does! She will be the one posting this blog on the website.
This is a surgeon from the frontline town of Popasna who continued performing surgeries even under the shelling, until his hospital was destroyed completely.
This is an entrepreneur from Sloviansk, who put his family business aside to evacuate people from the cities in the midst of the military actions.
A woman, who has survived the bombing of the Drama Theater in Mariupol. A volunteer who has taken a firm decision not to flee Severodonetsk because someone has to help the people who don’t have a chance to evacuate.
People like the family of Anzhelika and 13-year-old Uliana, for instance. This girl has a complicated form of cerebral palsy, and transporting her, especially in extreme conditions, might provoke a fit of epilepsy or asthma which would be fatal. So the family decided to stay in the town under constant shelling.
We are the team of ABO, the Local Media Development Agency. In the last five years, we have launched 45 local media outlets in different small towns of Ukraine and consolidated a community of over 300 reporters and editors.
Here, in Svoi.Global, we will publish the translations of the best materials, prepared by our team for our outlets – Svoi.City, Evacuation.City and 45 media of The City network in towns and cities.
We are also willing to write exclusive materials for the international media and help them search for people and topics. Please contact us at [email protected] and we will discuss the rest. It is important for us to tell the world about Ukraine.
